It’s A Big World After All – A Letter for Parents
We’ve got some exciting news! Saratoga Elementary School is one of twenty-five schools nationwide to be selected by Metlife Foundation to receive an educational grant. This money was specifically given to our school to implement a special one-time project for our students entitled “It’s A Big World After All”.
Designed by SES staff, the purpose of this project is to give our students the opportunity to explore other cultures and people groups, engage globally, as well as broaden their understanding of global needs and challenges. Through this project, we hope to give students vision, tools, and opportunities to solve problems not only in our own backyard, but across the globe.
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
For the project “It’s A Big World After All,” we will be working with local travel enthusiasts and international students from UW to present interactive hands-on learning experiences about various countries. These presentations will include information about history, culture, terrain, arts and entertainment, as well as humanitarian and environmental challenges these countries may face. These presentations will culminate in a World Fair, Friday, March 18th - sponsored by the students.
For the World Fair, students will create their own presentations about countries they select to research, as well as international nonprofit service organizations that they would like to sponsor. Parents and members of the community will be invited to attend the fair and vote for the presentation of their choice. The creator of the presentation that receives the most votes will win a monetary donation to the international nonprofit service organization that they previously selected.
